Is Your Past Holding You Back?
What would you do if you knew 100% that you would not fail. What if your future could be anything you want? What if there was no such thing as fear? Would you be living life differently today? Would you be preparing for a different future?
There’s plenty of people out there who are achieving their goals. And, they may even have some anxiety around pursuing their dream, yet they pursue them anyway. There are others who sort of get stuck in life. Some of them are allowing their past to dictate their future. Others may not be clear on what they want their future to look like.
What about you? Do you think that your past is limiting you? Have you made up a story about your future that is holding you back? If so, know that you’re not alone. However, there are various things you can do to bring to awareness to what might be holding you back, whether that’s anxiety, negative subconscious thoughts, or limited beliefs.
What’s Holding You Back?
As I’m sure you’re well aware of, the past is over. Things that have happened in the past or poor decisions you have made in the past should not hold you back. Yet sometimes people get stuck in the past and this holds them back. They may be full of excuses, which oftentimes are linked to limited beliefs or fears. Because they’re not aware of such negative thoughts or beliefs, their future may be limited.
Think of an iceberg. You see and are aware of the tip of the iceberg, but there’s a huge structure underneath that’s under the water. Your subconscious thoughts are like the part of the iceberg that is underwater. You may not be aware of what’s going on under there. If you’re feeling stuck, there may be a good chance that you’re allowing limited beliefs and thoughts under the surface to dictate your present and future. But the good news is that there are things you can do to work through these limiting beliefs.
What Do You Want?
Write down something that you desire, but you don’t actually have yet. Why don’t you have it? Write down the answers. Now, I want you to look at those answers and see if you can identify any limiting beliefs or fears. What kind of feelings are arising? Do you feel like you don’t deserve it? Do you feel like you’re not worthy enough? Are you holding yourself hostage by feelings of guilt?
When you can look at your past like this, you’re better able to identify what may be holding you back from creating the kind of future that you desire. It’s a good habit to get into, and perhaps you might even want to start a journal to jot down some old beliefs that you’re trying to replace with positive beliefs. It is possible to retrain your brain and redesign your life the way you truly want it to be.
Remember that your future is not set in stone and there are things you can do today that will impact your future for the better. It might seem a bit uncomfortable at times, but that’s alright. It’s completely fine to step out of your comfort zone at times.
Regardless of what your past has been like, my hope is that you’ll learn from it, let it go, and begin creating a better future. Because this is exactly what you deserve.
